NEW SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT GROUP: Caring for Our Souls
Tired of snorkeling around in your relationship with God? Ready to go deep? Are you thirsty for more of God than you’ve been experiencing? Revival is the answer and this course is for you. Over our six weeks together, we will focus on discovering a richer and more balanced spiritual life infused with joy, peace, and a clearer understanding of God. We will center on the contemplative way of life and practice various forms of Christian meditation. We will practice the ancient art of Lectio Divina (listening deeply—through meditation, prayer and contemplation—to hear with the ear of our hearts). We will engage in the Augustinian and Ignatian methods of reading scripture (“virtual experiences” of the Word where you read the passage and then use your imagination to put yourself in the scene). We will also consider how to create and maintain a spiritual journal.

​Reading the Bible for All Its Worth
Understanding the Bible isn't for the few, the gifted, or the ultra-scholarly. The Bible is accessible. It's meant to be read and comprehended by everyone from armchair readers to seminary students. A few essential insights into the Bible can clear up a lot of misconceptions and help you grasp the meaning of Scripture and its application to your 21st-century life. Working from How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth and other resources, participants will be equipped to dig into the Word, reviewing what to look for and what tools can be used to open the scriptures more fully. We’ll look at the many translations and the features in specialty Bibles such as the Thompson Chain Reference, the NIV Study Bible, the Spiritual Formation Bible and the Spiritual Renewal Bible; and will consult other references that can aid in our study.
 
In this five-week class, led by the Pastor, we’ll also share our journeys of faith; review core Christian beliefs and Baptist distinctives; and discuss believer’s baptism and ways of coming into church membership. We’ll also explore our spiritual gifts and consider how participants might find expression for those gifts via the ministries of the Cape Neddick Baptist Church.
